Review: "Really good new product, I am using this now instead of the X wrap. It is so well made and the straps are very strong so would never come off. I really like the removable splints too, and it looks smart!" [Graham, UK]  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

How to Measure Balto® Joint Carpal Compression Splint

Balto® Joint Carpal Compression Splint Sizes

Balto® Joint Carpal Compression Splint Sizes

The Circumference of the wrist ("Brace Length When Opened”) is the most important measurement to choose the size.

Please note that the "Brace Length When Opened” must cover 60% to 90% of the leg circumference as the brace does not need to cover the total circumference of the leg and it is better to avoid overlap

Balto® Joint Dog Carpal Compression Band - Firm to Full Support with Removable Splints

Customer Question:
Recently we bought a front leg splint for our dog. Unfortunately, due to the splint’s hard plastic shell this does not accommodate the large swelling on his joint. We were wondering about wrap type supports but they would need to offer full support for him. Are you able to advise please if you have anything suitable?

Answer:
Thanks for getting in touch, I can see you ordered a Walkin’ Full Leg Brace. These full leg braces have hard shells so yes if your dog has swelling a splint is not always suitable. Alternatively a wrap or a splint with removable splints would be better as these are made from soft neoprene material and Velcro straps, so you can change the tension with day to day swelling.

For wraps, check out our Therapaw Dog Leg Wraps. These are high quality wraps which you can even cut them down to customise to you dog's leg depth.

For removable splints, check out our Balto Joint Splint. This splint has removable splints so you can have both a firm wrap without splints or a rigid splint with the splints depending on what your dog needs at what time.

For carpal splints, you can also find a specific carpal splint called Balto Carpal Leg Splint which has a hard shell but does not go over the knee therefore knee swelling won't mean the splint won't fit.

..........

Uses:
The carpal brace is used for conditions involving lesions to the carpus, leading to pain, lameness, or difficulty in moving
Provides great protection for bandages and plasters when treating surgical wounds (arthrodesis) or licking sores
It also gives great results in pre-operative care: acute or chronic arthritis (osteoarthritis, osteochondrosis and similar conditions) and injuries to the ligaments are no longer a problem.
Arthritis / Arthrosis
Once the brace has been placed around the dog’s leg, it is not necessary that the two white-trimmed edges meet, since the closure of the brace is by means of the blue straps and stabilisation is provided by the splints on the back of the brace.

Features:
The brace can be used in pre- and post-surgery
Breathable fabric
Excellent wearability
Hand washable
Promotes improved balance between the muscle groups in the carpal area
Provides maximum stability of the carpal area and reduces swelling
Removable rigid splints - can be added when the dog is exercising and removed for use around the home

Unsuitable for sighthounds

This splint set us back 2 weeks in recovering our whippet after his raptured tendons surgery. It would not hold on his skinny leg, moving up and down, even though we tried to put a soft pad and vet wrap underneath. It caused horrible sores. And that's before he even started walking in it. Literally, he had sores just from laying still in it. It should be stated in the description that it might be not suitable for every breed. Very disappointed.

Good product but expensive

This is a brilliant product and our Doberman has not been lame since wearing it on her very energetic runs. Only problem is the Velcro no longer sticks despite cleaning and the white edging is wearing off. It is a very expensive item to keep replacing.

A bit flimsy

This was recommended by the vet for my dog. Having bought the correct size I am not sure, neither is the vet, that it lives up to its description. Will have to review.

Balto joint dog compression band.

So far so good. Older dog has gotten used to it quickly & definitely appears more stable when walking. Highly recommended

Too small

Although I can get it round the dogs leg (border collie) it’s not big enough in length like I thought it was on the picture , she’s only 18kg so I ordered small , not long enough to keep her leg straight , she’s recovering from dislocated wrist
