If your dog has a partial cruciate ligament tear, your dog can heal naturally in 6-12 months as scar tissue will form. During this period a knee brace is recommended to firstly, provide extra support and promote healing, and secondly, to reduce the risk of further injury e.g. turning quickly.
If the knee injury is a full tear, surgery is the only option to completely fix the ligaments back together. However, surgery is not always an option. In this instance, your can use a knee brace as a lifetime commitment to help stabilise and support your dog's knee.
An MRI scan will show if your dog has a partial or full tear.
