5 Dog Wheelchair Charities in the UK - Find A Dog Wheelchair

Dog wheelchairs can be expensive, especially if your dog only needs a set of wheels temporarily. There are several incredible dog charities in the UK who provide dog wheelchairs to dogs around the country. Some charities require you to make a donation while others ask for nothing at all.

If you are on Facebook there is a super supportive group called ‘UK Dogs on Wheels’. Here you will find people sharing tips and experiences along with very kind people offering to loan wheels they no longer need.

Here are 5 Dog Wheelchair Charities in the UK. We explain what makes each one special, so look below and find the right charity for you and your dog.

Winston's Wheels is one of the two big wheelchair charities in the UK (the other being Pumpkin & Friends).

Winston’s Wheels is a charity dedicated to a very special boy named Winston. Rachel Wettner, the founder of Winston’s Wheels, created the charity following her own journey caring for her late Staffordshire bull terrier Winston. In 2017, at the age of nine, Winston began to show issues with his hind legs, which led to the diagnosis of a tumour in his spine. From the help of a very kind stranger, Winston was given a set of wheels that allowed him to continue being the happy boy he always had been. It inspired Rachel to set up a charity providing wheelchairs for dogs with mobility or illness to continue being dogs. Rachel's dream is to keep as many dogs mobile for as long as possible!

Winston’s Wheels are there to help people who are struggling to purchase wheelchairs themselves and aim to help as many dogs as possible. You can apply via their website and fill out the application form here https://www.winstonswheels.org.uk/apply-for-wheels. The wheels are completely free however, for the charity to continue helping other dogs, purchasing from their online shop or a one-off donation is much appreciated. All they ask in return is regular pictures and videos of your dogs in the wheelchairs sent to their Facebook or via Whatsapp.

In October 2021 an animal-loving family adopted a West Highland Terrier puppy called Pumpkin, she was paralysed from the waist down and they just knew they had to help her! After an MRI scan, it revealed her spine had been broken through extreme trauma. Pumpkin doesn't feel pain or any sensations from her waist down. She is also double incontinent, so wears a nappy.

The family has done everything possible to give Pumpkin the best life, full of happiness and adventures. One of these things they did was get her a dog wheelchair. Pumpkin uses a wheelchair to help her get around, to stay active, happy and healthy.

Pumpkin is known worldwide and the family dedicates their lives to raising awareness for other disabled animals just like her. They have raised thousands of pounds so that they can help many more animals and their families - “having a disability isn't a death sentence. It's the beginning of a new adventure”! They are famous for hosting an ‘Annual Disability Dog Walk’, which sees lots of dogs in their wheels all coming together, having the best time and raising funds and awareness to help other families just like them! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-ZQS37oiQ8
