When is a Neck Brace Right?
Your dog will need a neck brace if they’ve suffered from a neck injury (eg. whiplash), neck muscle strain, or have a ruptured or slipped neck disc.
The brace will stabilise the neck and limit neck movement, helping prevent further injury. They can also help in specific cases of Wobbler’s Syndrome which affect the neck.
It can be used pre-and post-surgery to help recovery. Sometimes a neck brace is used instead of an Elizabethan collar to keep a dog from licking a wound.
Consult with your vet first if you are considering using for Vestibular Disease, ear infections, or neurological infections. It is NOT standard to use a neck brace for these conditions.

How Will a Neck Brace Help?
A neck brace limits movement of the neck vertebrae. If your dog moves their head a lot, this can aggravate neck injuries. A neck brace minimises this, giving the neck time to heal. The neck brace is also compressive. This reduces strain on the neck which helps pain relief and eases inflammation.
Neck braces are helpful if there’s minor neck instability. Proper, neutral alignment of the neck is important to keep certain neck conditions from deteriorating. The neck brace maintains the neck’s correct posture.
How to Pick the Right Neck Brace?
