Story of Gus, the Border Collie

Story of Gus, the Border Collie

"Gus is a14 year old Border Collie but his back legs are starting to give way. When we take him out in the garden or on walks, he is really struggling to cover any distance now.

I felt I had two options, to get a full body harness or to get a wheelchair. Because of Gus's size, I didn't think I could lift him up for long in a harness on walks and I thought the wheelchair would give him much more independence than a harness and save my back.

The wheelchair has been a complete game changer. Gus adapted in the first walk and now even ventures into his favourite pond. Could not recommend more highly." Edward C

Common Questions & Answers about Wheels for Border Collie

Information on wheels
When you order a set of wheels they will come in a kit with an instruction booklet on how to put them together. The harness attaches to the frame, put the harness on your Border Collie and they will be ready to pull the wheels.

The kit includes:
The frame, wheels x 2 (foam 8"), harness, leg rings, stirrups and belly belt

What extras do people buy with their Border Collie wheels?
Front Warrior Harness - This is very popular as an extra. The harness helps displace the wheel's weight making pulling the wheelchair more comfortable than the thinner harness which comes with the wheels. The harness is made of durable neoprene. Pull the harness over your dog's head. There is a D-Ring on the back of the harness so you can attach a lead-in or out of the wheelchair.

Belly Support - this sits under your dog and evenly distributes their weight and removes pressure points. This makes the wheels more comfortable

Will my dog need boots if they drag their paws?
In the kit you will get stirrups, if you want to protect their nails or paws you can use the stirrups to hold their paws up off the ground. If you want to let your dog use their back feet to move along, we recommend putting boots on them. We sell WagWear Mojave Boots which are a good choice.

What happens to the fitness of your Border Collie
In the first few days, keep a good eye on your Border Collie. This is probably the most amount of exercise they've done in a while! Take it easy and give them a break from the wheels when you see them getting tired. Overall you will find your Border Collie gets a lot more exercise and will be fitter than below.

Can I leave the wheels on all day?
Yes you can leave the wheels on all day. Most people find their dog really enjoys running around. Your Border Collie can wear the wheels inside, outside and all-day.

Can I return the wheels if they don't fit my dog or if my dog doesn't like them?
Yes absolutely, we have a 14 day returns policy. We also have a wheelchair expert who looks over each order before they are sent out to ensure your dog has the perfect wheel size for them.

What is the delivery time?
2 – 3 days in the UK. We can ship internationally (anywhere).

New lease of life

My boy is 15.6 a Frenchie, mentally he's active, eats plays wants tickles but his back legs have gone and one of his front legs is getting weak, I know everyday is a blessing but this wheelchair is an absolute godsend! I bought others(cheaper) and returned them, yes they're expensive but they are worth every penny!

Pug Dog Wheelchair

This wheelchair is nothing short of amazing. The quality is outstanding, sturdy, but not heavy, plus it was easy to set up. It took awhile to get the adjustments right for my dog (width, height etc), but this was made so much easier with the help and support of Emily at Zoomadog. The customer service is excellent and should definitely be tapped into. After just one week of tweaks and slight alterations, my 13 year old pug finally took his first steps in it. Perseverance is key. The ultimate incentive to get him walking (I found) was to attach his lead (as a temporary try out measure) to the harness. Unfortunately the harness supplied with the wheelchair isn’t equipped with a D ring for a lead, and so I have now purchased a walking harness designed for use with the wheelchair. It’s a game changer - no doubt about it. I couldn’t be more delighted!

Frenchie Wheelchair

Thank you 🙏 to Megan for all her support. Frankie doesn’t love or know how to move in his wheels yet, but when he doesn’t he will be zooming around again. The Wheelchair is amazing. Highly recommended. Laina.
