Scandi Orthopedic Splints & Products in the UK

Scandi Orthopedic are one of the leading experts in designing and manufacturing dog splints. They are based in Sweden.

When is a Scandi Orthopedic Splint Right?

If your dog is limping, or has suffered a joint injury, using a support or splint can help speed up healing. Rigid splint support is necessary if there’s a serious issue - such as carpal hyperflexion - where the ligaments are stretched, severe sprains, or instability etc. A splint will strengthen and support the joint, stabilising it. Splints also reduce any excessive joint movement to protect against further damage.

Lighter support wraps will keep your dog comfortable for milder injuries or conditions. They give support while allowing more freedom of movement than a rigid splint.

How will a Scandi Orthopedic Splint Help?

Scandi Orthopedic splints are all customisable so can be shaped to your dog’s specific leg shape for the best fit. This reduces the risk of rubbing and ensures optimal support.

The Grade 2.5 splints contain thermoplastic inserts which you can shape yourself for semi rigid support to stabilise moderate joint, ligaments or tendon issues.

For more serious conditions - such as a complete achilles tendon rupture, or cases when the joint is touching the ground - Grade 3 or Grade 4 splints provide strong levels of joint stabilisation.

Grade 3 will need fitting by your vet. Grade 4 splints are bespoke, made to your dog’s dimensions using a scanning process.

How to Pick a Scandi Orthopedic Splint?

If your dog’s joint condition or injury is mild, a Scandi Orthopedic wrap Grade 1 or 2 is a good way to prevent further damage and give light support to the joint.

For more serious injuries or conditions, a Grade 3 is a good choice as it is very strong support. If your dog has arthritis in their paw you will need to get the version with a paw attachment.

Grade 4 splints are recommended for chronic, long-term conditions or complex cases, particularly when surgery isn’t an option. The scanning process means that the Grade 4 splint is comfortable and appropriate for your dog’s needs There are a variety of options - e.g. it’s possible to build a splint that’s articulated, a mix of articulated or fully rigid, or completely rigid.

If you’re not sure whether a Grade 3 or 4 is best for your dog, please send us a video of your dog walking towards the camera, and one side profile video of the affected side and Scandi Orthopedic will give their expert recommendation.

Scandi Orthopedic is a Swedish company specialising in orthotics, prosthetics and other animal health products. In cooperation with veterinarians, our orthopaedic engineers have developed orthoses and prostheses that are used all over the world.

Their motto is simple. They want to provide products of the highest possible quality in order to give our four-legged friends the highest possible quality of life. They also strive for environmental sustainability. All their products are manufactured in Europe with social and ecological sustainability in mind.

Orthotics are excellent tools for treating a wide array of injuries, from light sprains to acute fractures. This treatment is not only less costly than many other alternatives, it is also highly beneficial in achieving rehabilitation. An orthosis can be used before or after an operation and can in some instances fully replace the need for an operation. Our unique four level treatment for leg injuries makes it possible to target specific types of injuries and provide a controlled rehabilitation.

Our orthoses are made with biomechanics in mind. Grade 2.5 and Grade 3 are neoprene orthoses with thermoplastic sheets that after heating becomes shapeable. Grade 3 with Paw has a thermoplastic textile that after heating and shaping transforms into a cast. Grade 4 orthoses are customized and individually manufactured after the cast and the information provided of the patient.

The orthoses are designed to be functional, prophylactic and to facilitate rehabilitation.
