How Long Does It Take for Canine Arthritis to Set in After Joint Surgery?

Many of our customers are unsure of how long it takes, or why canine arthritis sets in after surgery or trauma. Here is a short article form our partners at Top Dog Health, about why and how a great dog supplement really does help slow the progress of canine arthritis. These supplements are great for any dog that shows signs of arthritis, as well as those dogs in rehabilitation after surgery.

How long does it take for dog arthritis to set in after joint surgery?

This is a very common question amongst pet owners after their dogs had major orthopaedic injury.

Unfortunately there is no exact time-frame as to how long it takes for arthritis to set in after joint injury. There are simply way to many variables.

What is more important to understand is that arthritis is a progressive disease, meaning it increases in severity over time. It is a definite that dogs who undergo major joint surgery undoubtedly will develop arthritis because the natural stability of the joint has been compromised and no matter how perfect the surgery is, it is never as good as the way nature put it together in the first place. The exception to this rule is of course joint replacements where a titanium implant is used, for everyone else arthritis is inevitable.

Therefore the question really becomes what can you do to slow the progression over time and the answer is by using the right natural joint health supplement. Most people are familiar with glucosamine and to a lesser degree chondroitin but what most people don€™t realized is that even more important are incorporating natural ingredients with proven anti-inflammatory benefits such as MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) or vitamin C to name a few of the more common ones.

You may have noticed that many people use and rave about Top Dog€™s joint supplement called GlycanAid Maintenance and GlycanAid HA (hyaluronic acid). Both of these supplements use the same core ingredients which are glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, Cetyl-M and Vitamin C. In addition to being a really well rounded supplement all the ingredients used are from the USA, something we are very proud of because we can provide pet owners with the confidence that only the highest quality ingredients are used in our products. For people who really care about providing their dog with the best this matters.
