My Dog Might Be Paralysed
What Should I Do?
When Viva was 7 years old she developed a limp and a 'hot spot' on her back that was managed with the aid of a chiropractor; she had two chiropractors, one before and one after Covid.
In both cases, her back was manipulated as it was going out of alignment due to her favouring one side. As her problems have progressed, it has also affected her joints, especially her knees and elbows. Before her original collapse, we hadn't been aware of just how much she was tipping her weight forward onto her front legs. There is always a very noticeable difference after she has had treatment, Viva is always much smoother in her perambulations although she still trips over her own back paws!
Unfortunately, Covid meant she couldn't access her first chiropractor sessions, and she collapsed in the field one day. I made a sling attached to her harness, which helped, but she was very restricted.
The vet thinks she had a bleed on the spine which impacted her nerves, affecting the muscles on her back legs. We were thinking of trying to make her some wheels, when we came across your website.
Her first outing was a huge success, and her tail wagged for the first time in two months. Unfortunately, her younger 'sister' bowled her over on a later occasion and Viva refused to use her wheels. We left it for a couple of months and tried again. Now she scrambles over rocks and cliffs, and thinks nothing of it if she tumbles over - just waits for us to right her!
Viva can get about indoors, but struggles any distance. The wheelchair has been an absolute godsend for her and has given her independence and her mojo back. We have just upgraded to larger wheels because she has totally worn her smaller ones out! Plus they are definitely easier in the rough.
Thank you for your part in keeping Viva happy and mobile!!
