Review: "Our 8 year old dislocated her hock and damaged her ligaments 8 weeks ago. This is perfect, the support itself is soft and padded, nice wrap around Velcro which I cant see looking too dirty, nice touch too to have the splints removable so I can pop it in the machine." Ask a Question
  • Hi, our 3 yeah old OEB has problems with her cruciate ligaments in both rear knees, what would you recommend to help support her so she can do a bit more? Thanks

Hello, It sounds like your OEB needs quite a lot of support, if your girl still has a good amount of strength in her front legs I think a dog wheelchair would be great for her. It will allow her to exercise for longer as the frame will take all the pressure off her back legs! Alternatively the Balto Jump Double knee brace could be a good option.

  • Our 8 year old lab has an Achilles problem. She is walking very crab like and hock has dropped. She is miserable and its breaking me. What would you recommend to help her. Thank you in advance.

The Balto Hock Splint will help stabalise your dogs hock joint giving her that much needed support when she is walking. We would also consider a dog wheelchair if the achillies problem is servere. Feel free to send us in a video of your dog walking so we can take a look. Our email address is woof@zoomadog.co.uk. Thank you

How to Measure Balto® Hock Brace

Balto® Hock Brace Sizes

Balto® Hock Brace Sizes

There are three measurements you need to find the correct size of hock brace

- Circumference above the hock (A)

- Circumference below the hock (B)

- Height of the brace (C)

Balto® Hock - Dog Hock Splint Brace

What hock splint size should I pick if my dog is in between two sizes?
If you have a smaller dog, our tip here is to go down a size as these hock splints can be a little heavy. This means your dog will find it easier to walk if they have a lighter splint.

Uses:
Hock hyperextension
Arthritis
Arthrosis
Post-surgical support
General hock weakness and pain

Features:
Breathable fabric
Excellent wearability
Hand washable
The brace can be used in pre- and in post-surgery
Rigid splints included which fit into the brace
Does not affect natural movement
Reduces pain, swelling and supports muscles in the hock
Reduces the amount of strain on the joint

Recommendations for use:
During the period of restraint, it is advisable not to leave the dog alone for too long, because it might try to remove the brace by biting or scratching it.
Caution: Direct contact between the splints and the skin means that the brace may cause reddening if the dog is taken out to play or run while wearing it. We recommend that this be prevented by placing some gauze or cotton wool between the splints and the skin.
Consult a veterinarian when using rigid splints.
Always remove the rigid splints before washing.

Hock brace has made things worse

I bought the Baltic Hock dog brace to assist my elderly dog whose right hock joint is very weak. Unfortunately it doesn’t work because it makes my dog walk with his paw bent under so he’s grounding with the top of his paw rather than his pads.

A lot of money spent for a somewhat useless brace.

Helped my dog walk

The brace was very good, but needed shortening on the lower part, so she could flex her paw. Now it’s perfect.
