What size and what back brace would you recommend for a shih tzu that weighs 7.2kg and has a herniated disc in his spine 🤔
Given your dog’s fresh herniated disc diagnosis, the WiggleLess Back Brace can be helpful — but there are some important things to keep in mind so it’s used safely.
How it can help:
- Stabilises the spine → The brace limits side-to-side twisting and excessive back flexion, which can help protect the injured disc during recovery.
- Supports posture → Helps prevent sudden movements that can aggravate the spine.
- Confidence after rest → Once walks are allowed again, the brace can give your dog extra stability and reassurance.
When to use it after diagnosis:
- First 2 weeks (strict rest phase): The priority is full crate rest or strict confinement — no walks, stairs, jumping, or rough play. Even with a brace, movement in this phase can worsen the injury.
- After vet clearance: If your vet says your dog can start short, gentle walks, the brace can be worn during these outings for added support.
Wearing time & breaks:
- Start slow → Begin with short periods (30–60 minutes) and watch for any signs of discomfort or rubbing.
- Daily max → It’s fine to use for walks and gentle activity, but not 24/7. Remove it when your dog is resting or sleeping so their skin can breathe and muscles can move naturally.
- Check skin → Especially in warm weather, check for chafing or irritation.

What size would you suggest for a staffy I can’t measure her
Hi, It is very hard to advise what size is best without the measurements. Staffy's have a larger chest circumference so I would guess they would need either the 15" 17" or 19".

My IVDD French bulldog has a 25” chest, will the 9-11” accommodate a wide fitting?
Hello, we recommend the 11" for your FBD. The 9" chest circumference is just about 25" so will be too tight.

Hi I have a border collie who is 14 in February next year. He has had Ivdd since he was 7. Recently I have noticed him weak on his hind legs. Would the WiggleLess Dog harness be suitable for him and if so what size? Also if it puts firm support on his spine would that not be bad for a dog with ivdd?
Could you send in a video of your lovely Border Collie so we can see how she is walking? If her hind legs are becoming weak, and perhaps dragging, a back brace won't correct so it would be best if we could take a look at a little video and we can suggest from there. Hi I bought Bertie the lil back bracer a couple of years ago you have got his photo. He has had X-rays and scans and he has got a lot of calcification in his spine. I bought a medium lil back bracer I’m looking to buy the wiglglelLess do you think the 9 to 11 inch would be ok
Hello, the medium Lil Back Bracer is for a spinal measurement of 13-15.5". So that one is a little larger than the WiggleLess 11", which starts from 9" up to 11". I would advise to re measure you dog to see what size would be best. Thank you

Hi, my dog has IVDD and has had two successful surgeries 5 years ago. He is showing signs of a flare up in the lumbar region. He is about 13 inches from bottom of neck to tail. He’s a mixed breed. Which back brace should I get?
Hi, we have two back braces. The WiggleLess Back Brace offers firm support along your dog's spine, giving them full security and reducing pain caused by pinching back nerves. The L'il Back Bracer is lighter in support, designed to stabilise your dog's back from above and below, with comfortable ergonomic construction to alleviate pressure on the spin. Both braces are designed to help with IVDD and other back issues.
