Review: "After trying another walking harness I bought from the US, I tried the ginger lead with great results. This product is really easy to use without any complicated straps etc. Loki was walking much better and its saved my back no end as I can walk him in an upright position." [Nigel, UK]  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • Would a 35kg Weimaraner be considered a tall dog? He has lost the use of his back legs and they therefore trail on the ground. I cannot keep my arm bent at the elbow to support him so need a very short handle. Can the sling come with stirrups to put the dogs legs in to stop them trailing?

Yes - at 35kg your Weimaraner will be a Tall Male size (27.2-79kg) as they are long-legged breed. The GingerLead handle straps are also adjustable so you can make sure they are short and comfortable for you. Sadly, the GingerLead sling doesn't come with stirrups.

How to Measure GingerLead Support Dog Sling

GingerLead Sling Sizes

GingerLead Sling Sizes

PAD WIDTH
Measure from the front of the hind legs (in front of the penis for male dogs) towards your dogs chest to determine the support pad width. For barrel chested dogs (i.e. Boxers), measure just the belly area to the base of the rib cage. Downsizing is common with these breeds.

ADJUSTABILITY DIMENSION (LENGTH)
Measure starting where the handle of GingerLead will rest in your hand (while you are standing upright), continue under your dog’s belly, up the other side, then back to your hand completing the loop

I don’t think my dog is very comfortable

Does what it’s meant to do, but is kinda fiddly. Keeps slipping over my boy dog’s penis so he pees all over it. Wish I could return it, but I don’t think I can now. Not straightforward to use.

Excellent product

Having a German Shepherd who recently started to suffer with nerve issues regarding his back legs, this item has been invaluable. It has allowed me to keep walking my dog thus keeping his leg strength whilst also ensuring that he doesn't injure himself. This has ensured that his quality of life remains and his condition has the least impact possible.

it does not stay in place

We have not used too much yet and it is handy to get him out of his bed, but when walking it keeps moving down his body and I worry he will wee on it, maybe I need to tweak it

Good but heavy!

Works well for my 15 year old Labrador, especially the attachment to her harness which means I don’t need a lead as well. She has neuropathy in one hind leg as a result of an accident and lifesaving surgery, and no cruciate in the other. But it is rather heavy - she copes because she is still surprisingly strong and determined. A more frail dog might struggle.
