Our 10 year old Cockapoo had two spinal surgeries in April for slipped discs which unfortunately failed. She is now paralysed from the waist down and only her front legs work. What would you recommend?
We’re sorry to hear that the surgeries were unsuccessful. Sadly, sometimes IVDD surgery, or for dog spine problems, doesn't help. However, a wheelchair can ensure that your Cockapoo can stay mobile and maintain a good quality of life.
Many dogs who’ve had unsuccessful spinal surgery are now ‘zooming’ around with a dog wheelchair. To get the right size wheelchair for your girl we’ll need her weight, back leg length (as if standing, you can take this measurement with her lying down), and her ATR (armpit to rump) length.
The wheelchair kit comes with stirrups included. As your Cockapoo is totally paralysed, she will use the wheelchair with her rear legs up in the stirrups. This ensures her back paws are not dragging along the ground.
