What Injuries can the Full Rear Leg Splint Help:
A full leg splint for dogs covering from the paw up past the hock (the pointy joint at the back of your dog's leg), is used to stabilise the entire front leg and support more serious or higher-up injuries than a short splint. It can help with the following medical conditions and injuries:
- Fractures breaks or weakness
- Post-traumatic injuries following accidents or falls
- Post-surgical immobilisation
- Severe ligament sprains or partial tears
- Tarsal hyperextension (when support above the paw and jock joint is needed)
- Tendon injuries requiring extended immobilisation
- Paw knuckling caused by neurological injury or weakness
- Nerve damage affecting limb positioning or strength
- Reduced proprioception (poor awareness of paw placement)
- Advanced arthritis requiring joint stabilisation
- Age-related weakness affecting the entire limb
- Protection of surgical sites or wounds
How to Measure your Dog:
You need to measure two points: above the hock joint and below the hock joint.
Sizing is as below:
Small: 9.5 - 11.9cm
Medium: 12 - 17.4cm
Large: 17.5+ cm
For the paw width: Measure your dog's paw width. Get your dog to stand on a tape measure, weight bearing. Brush away any hair, and measure the widest point.
