Review: "Bess my Labrador suffers from Elbow Dysplasia, I chose the double elbow brace to provide support to both elbows. She is happy wearing it is really easy to fit, she is not as stiff after our walks and seems to be building up her stamina. It really helps with the swelling in the joint too, which can only be a good thing." [Lauren, Liverpool]  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Customer Question:

Our dog has a small hygroma on one elbow. What brace would be best for my dog?

Answer:

We recommend our Balto Soft Dog Elbow Brace (above) to help with a small hygroma, and to prevent one on the other elbow we suggest you look at the double Balto Soft Plus Double Elbow Brace. Both of these Balto Braces have good thick padding which will protect your dog's elbow. We would recommend you don't purchase the Kruuse Dog Elbow Protector as this only offers light support better suited to keeping an elbow cut clean or similar.

Very smart support for my Lab’s weak knees. Really does the job.

Gives support

After measuring carefully I went for the Large for a 27.5kg lab. It would not have supported anything as too big. Exchanged it for the Medium so 2 lots of postage to be paid as not paid by Zoomadog. Takes a while for a dog to get used to. Not sure yet if it is worth it.

Changed size when buying again

I bought a large for my collie cross last year who weighs 22kg, only to find it was really too big and I had to shorten the main strap. He has a Hygroma on his elbow. Over the winter the Velcro has become less sticky, in spite of brushing the hair out of the prickly side, so I have bought a replacement in a smaller size, . Otherwise it does the job, and my dog learnt to tolerate it quite quickly. He also learnt how to get it off, but that may be because it was too big - hoping the smaller one will stay put.

Too big

Our dog is 22kg. Bought the large 20-45kg and it's too big. I have since checked on the Balto website and they quote both weight and the distance, elbow to elbow, over the body. Perhaps it would be a good idea for your description to give this information too.

So far so good, compression & padding giving protection to our elderly dogs elbows who is a Typical Border Collie who refuses to sleep on anything but a cold hard floor! Vet commented on how supportive the elbow brace is and also helps keep dressing in place.
