A dog wheelchair is excellent for helping your French Bulldog walk again. Your Frenchie may have developed Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), have weak rear legs, IVDD, lower back disc issues or weak hips. Your French Bulldog might have started to drag their back legs or lose balance, so keep them moving and exercising by keeping their weight off their back legs with a set of wheels. Most French Bulldogs use a Small Walkin Wheelchair, many customers add a front vest harness making the wheelchair easier and more comfortable to get around.

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • I have an elderly French Bulldog who has developed a weak/collapsing rear leg- surgery not an option. What is best for her to be able to walk about? She is 11-12kg

I would highly recommend you look at a dog wheelchair for your Frenchie, the wheelchair will take the weight off her back legs either 100% or less depending if you want to keep her paws on the floor. This wil mean she is much more active and can stay fit. We find dogs up to 17 years old or older love dog wheelchairs, so don't be put off by her age. Keep her active for as long as you can 🐾

  • May French Bulldog is 15kg. Should they go in a Small or Medium Wheelchair?

We have found French Bulldogs up to 17kg, who are not very active, usually do best in a Small wheelchair as a Medium can be too large for them

Common Questions & Answers for French Bulldog Wheelchairs

What size dog wheelchair is my French Bulldog?

All French Bulldogs go in a Small Walkin Wheelchair, once you purchase you will get an automatic email adking for their measurements. If you have any questions, please email or call us: woof@zoomadog.co.uk or 01730 622544

What do you get with your wheels kit?
Your wheels come in a kit with a booklet to show you how to put them together. The kit includes: The frame, wheels x 2, front harness, leg rings, stirrups and belly belt.

What extras should I buy with my wheels?
For French Bulldogs, we recommend looking at two following products:

Many people buy a Belly Support, this gives more support to your dog underneath their tummy and makes the wheels more comfortable. It also disperses the wheel weight more evenly. The kit comes with a Belly Belt, but this is thin and not as good for larger dogs.

The Walkin Front Harness / Vest this is a more comfortable and wider harness than the standard harness which comes in the kit. It makes the wheelchair easier to pull.

When is your dog ready for a wheelchair?
It is so important your dog has two strong front legs. For the back legs, you can put their legs either up or down by using the stirrups. You can do this easily. Now your dog is in wheels they can get the exercise they need to live a happy, healthy and active life. We find dogs adjust easily to wheelchairs and they are off exploring in no time.

How do I measure my dog for wheels?
First, find the weight of your dog. Second, measure their back leg length and ATR (see the image below). We will email you after your order to get your measurements.

Can my dog lie down with their wheels?
These wheels are for exercising and activity and don’t make lying down easy.

Can my dog go to the toilet in the wheels?

For non-paralysed dogs we recommend you take your dog to the toilet before they go in their wheels. In time your dog will learn to toilet naturally standing up. The most important thing is to reassure them that it's okay the first time so it’s a positive experience for them. If your dog is paralysed, your dog will go to the toilet while in the wheels.

My dog has an amputated leg. Can they have a wheelchair?
Yes, if your dog has an amputated front leg we recommend a Quad wheelchair. If they have an amputated rear leg you can start with regular rear wheels.

What is the delivery time?
2 – 3 days in the UK. We can ship internationally (anywhere).

Will my dog need boots if they drag their paws?
In the kit you will get stirrups, if you want to protect their nails or paws you can use the stirrups to hold their paws up off the ground. If you want to let your dog use their back feet to move along, we recommend putting boots on them. We sell Walker Active Boots which are a good choice.

What happens to the fitness of my dog?
In the first few days, keep a good eye on your dog. This is probably the most amount of exercise they've done in a while! Take it easy and give them a break from the wheels when you see them getting tired. Overall you will find your dog gets a lot more exercise and will be fitter than below.

Can I leave the wheels on all day?
Yes you can leave the wheels on all day. Most people find their dog really enjoys running around. Make sure to keep an eye on them in the first week, this is probably the most amount of exercise they have done in a while! Your dog can wear the wheels inside, outside and all-day.

Can I return the wheels if they don't fit my dog or if my dog doesn't like them?
Yes absolutely, we have a 14 day returns policy. We also have a wheelchair expert who looks over each order before they are sent out to ensure your dog has the perfect wheel size for them.

New lease of life

My boy is 15.6 a Frenchie, mentally he's active, eats plays wants tickles but his back legs have gone and one of his front legs is getting weak, I know everyday is a blessing but this wheelchair is an absolute godsend! I bought others(cheaper) and returned them, yes they're expensive but they are worth every penny!

Pug Dog Wheelchair

This wheelchair is nothing short of amazing. The quality is outstanding, sturdy, but not heavy, plus it was easy to set up. It took awhile to get the adjustments right for my dog (width, height etc), but this was made so much easier with the help and support of Emily at Zoomadog. The customer service is excellent and should definitely be tapped into. After just one week of tweaks and slight alterations, my 13 year old pug finally took his first steps in it. Perseverance is key. The ultimate incentive to get him walking (I found) was to attach his lead (as a temporary try out measure) to the harness. Unfortunately the harness supplied with the wheelchair isn’t equipped with a D ring for a lead, and so I have now purchased a walking harness designed for use with the wheelchair. It’s a game changer - no doubt about it. I couldn’t be more delighted!

Frenchie Wheelchair

Thank you 🙏 to Megan for all her support. Frankie doesn’t love or know how to move in his wheels yet, but when he doesn’t he will be zooming around again. The Wheelchair is amazing. Highly recommended. Laina.
